Get a Visa


Apply for a student visa via the Israeli Embassy or Consulate near you.
1. Search for a Program:
In order to start your academic experience in Israel you will first need to choose the academic program most suitable for you. The best way for you to find out which program is best for you is by using our 'Study in Israel' search engine, where you can find the information you need about all the academic programs aimed for international students like you.

Explore our site, look around, and choose a program to study.

2. The Application Process
Once you've chosen a program, look up the admission requirements on the institution website. Generally in order to apply for a program you will need to provide at least some of the following documents (please note that the admission requirements vary between institutions and programs):

  1. Academic transcripts and diplomas from previous studies
  2. Proof of English level (for example, results from TOEFL or IELTS)
  3. Academic recommendation letters
  4. Curriculum Vitae
  5. Statement of Purpose
  6. GRE or GMAT scores
  7. Medical certificate

Once you've been accepted you will receive the following forms:
  • A letter of acceptance
  • A letter from your institution confirming the isolation conditions upon your arrival in Israel
  • A letter from the Israeli Ministry of Health regarding the isolation conditions
After you have all the forms you can continue to the third and last step - visas!
3. Visas
In order to study in Israel you will need an A/2 Student Visa. Applications for visas are to be made at an Israeli Embassy or Consulate abroad. The Student Visa is valid for up to one year and for multiple entrances and exits. Spouses and children will also be granted visas.

In order to be granted a visa you will need to provide the following documents:

  1. Completed and signed application for a visa to enter Israel (click here to download the Application for a Visa to Enter Israel)
  2. Two passport pictures (5x5 cm)
  3. A formal letter of acceptance from a recognized higher education institution in Israel including start date of your studies
  4. Proof that the student has the financial means to pay for her/his studies and subsistence throughout the stay in Israel
  5. A travel document (e.g. passport) that is valid for at least one year, provided that the home country has a diplomatic mission in the State of Israel. If there is no such mission in Israel, the passport must be valid for the entire period of studies and another six months beyond that

COVID-19 Update


As of May 2022 it is not required to present a negative result on a COVID-19 test before boarding a flight to Israel and there is no legal requirement of isolation upon entering. Those who received a positive COVID-19 test – a PCR or an authorized antigen test – must go into isolation for confirmed COVID-19 cases and follow the isolation guidance for confirmed cases. Isolation conditions must be coordinated with your host institution.


In addition to the A/2 Student Visa, students will receive an 'Entry permit' to Israel which grants them entrance to Israel at most 30 days before the start date of the academic program. No more than 24 hours before your air travel to Israel, you must fill out an online inbound clearance application form.

Student Visa Employment Terms

Students who are studying for a Master’s or PhD degree or undertaking post-doctoral research at an Israeli university are permitted to work as a research or teaching assistant in their field of study at the university, on a part-time basis. Other students are not permitted to work in Israel.

Students in High-Tech Fields

A high-tech company is permitted to submit an application to employ a foreign national who completed a full academic degree in an institution of higher education in Israel in one of the following professions: Electrical engineering, electronics, computers (including software engineering), information systems, or computer science. The duration of the permit that will be issued shall be for a period of up to 12 months from the date he/she is entitled to the degree. Tuition & Funding

Tuition


Israeli higher education tuition fees are competitive on an international scale. Tuition fees vary depending on the program and the institution. International Bachelor degree programs cost approximately US $11,000-$15,000 per year. Master’s degree programs vary from around $10,000 to $30,000 per year, while the tuition for Research Master's degrees can be lower depending on the higher education institution. Tuition fees for PhD degrees are generally waived by the host institution.

Funding


A range of scholarship programs are offered by the Israeli Government, higher education institutions and other organizations. Please see below details of scholarships offered to international students.

The Council for Higher Education in Israel and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities are pleased to announce the sixth call of the Excellence Fellowship Program in Israel for Outstanding International Postdoctoral Researchers. This program signifies Israel’s commitment to the promotion of international scientific collaborations and to the advancement of world-class research. Through this initiative, Israel offers top recent PhD graduates (up to four years from graduation), of all academic disciplines, the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in Israel with leading scientists and scholars in their field.
Scholarship Provision: A maximum of twenty fellowships will be provided to incoming post-doctorates conducting research in one of Israel’s universities; fellowships will be allocated in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), the Humanities and the Social Sciences. The fellowships will be awarded for two years for the amount of 160,000 NIS (~$47,000) per year.

Eligibility Requirements: The fellowship program is open to international candidates who have received a PhD from a recognized higher education institution outside of Israel less than 4 years from the time of application (not including parental or medical leave), or who will receive a PhD from a recognized higher education institution outside of Israel prior to the commencement of the fellowship.

The program, in collaboration with the Zuckerman Institute, enables the absorption of dozens of outstanding post-doctoral students in the STEM (science and technology) subjects in Israel. The amount of scholarship per postdoc is $ 100,000 for two years. The scholarship is intended, among other things, to fund subsistence allowances, residences, children's educational settings, flights and more. If necessary, the scholarship can be extended for another two years.  The application process for this scholarship is managed by the Zuckerman Foundation.

The US Government Fulbright program is one of the famous programs for student exchange and lecturers. In Israel, the program is run by the United States Education Fund (USIEF). The Fulbright program in Israel offers a range of core and other unique programs, including the Outstanding Fellowship Program for Outstanding Postdoctoral Participants. Name of Institution: Masa Israel Journey
Scholarship Provision: A grant to be used towards an academic program in Israel. Extra-curricular Israel experience activities are provided by the academic institute and/or Masa. Participants on Masa Israel-recognized programs of any length can apply for additional need-based financial aid depending on their country of origin and income. If a program is shorter than ten months, the need-based scholarship will be proportional to the length of the program.
Duration: 2-10 Months
Eligibility Requirements: Jewish students, between the ages of 18 and 30 and/or graduates of a secondary school. The scholarship is given to students who do not have an Israeli citizenship OR students who have an Israeli citizenship but have left Israel before the age of 14 and have lived outside of Israel for at least four consecutive years prior to receiving the grant. Students who have not been on an organized program (including an academic program) of more than four months in Israel since September 2004. Students who have not spent 4 consecutive months or longer in Israel within the 24 month period prior to the start of the chosen Masa program after the age of 18.

The Dr. Moses Strauss program M.Sc. in Marine Geosciences combines research and graduate studies, both practical and theoretical, of the marine environment including earth science-related topics such as exploration geophysics, seafloor mapping, remote sensing, geodynamics, tectonics, marine and coastal sedimentology, micropaleontology, pollution studies, seismology, hazards, marine geoarchaeology, geophysical modeling, geochemistry, chemical, and physical oceanography.

Scholarship Provision: The University of Haifa supports scholarships covering 75% of the tuition fees and provides a monthly stipend for two years (24 months, total 60,000NIS). There are also scholarships with larger monthly stipends that will be distributed on a competitive basis.
Duration: The program can be completed in two years and begins in October 2022
Eligibility Requirements: • Accredited B.Sc. degree from a recognized academic institution in geology, geophysics, marine science, engineering, soil sciences, or other related disciplines (Additional courses may be requested after admission to compensate for certain deficiencies), with a minimum grade of 80 or equivalent • Department pre-requisites are a basic knowledge of science in the following areas: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Atmosphere, English, and Computers • TOEFL scores of at least 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test) or 80 (internet-based test) • Curriculum Vitae • Research statement – goals and aims of the planned research (500-750 words) • Official diploma and grade transcripts

The Idit Fellowship is a four-year multidisciplinary program at the University of Haifa aimed at advancing the next generation of social science researchers in Israel. The program is composed of a select group of PhD students at the Herta & Paul Amir Faculty of Social Sciences. The group acts as a cross-field community to enhance each participant's personal research and professional development.

The goals of the program are to boost the level of training, teaching and research of program participants to a level comparable to leading international institutions with the aim that its members will successfully integrate into Israeli and international academies.

The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities expresses its grave concern over the continuously deteriorating situation in Ukraine. As an immediate response, we are offering to fund up to ten Emergency Fellowships for Ukrainian Researchers throughout the year, to allow them the opportunity to continue their scientific work in Israel.

The Polonsky Academy for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences, established by Dr. Leonard Polonsky in 2014, is one of the newest international fellowship programs worldwide that aims to produce cutting-edge research in these fields.

Each year, the Polonsky Academy awards up to seven postdoctoral fellowships, tenable for up to four years (with a possible fifth year in exceptional circumstances), to outstanding international scholars working in any field of the humanities and social sciences.


Scholarship Provision: The Fellowship offers an annual stipend of $40,000 and other benefits.

The pandemic we are living through has shown the importance of international research collaborations to tackle global challenges. To foster future opportunities for researcher mobility, and help plant the seeds for recovery, Mitacs is pleased to launch a special initiative in cooperation with several of our international partners: a competitive call for applications to our Mitacs Globalink Research Award program in areas of strategic importance for the Canadian and international research communities. Under the joint supervision of a home and host professor at a university in Canada and an institution affiliated with one of Mitacs’s international partners, senior undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows included in successful applications will receive a $6,000 research award to conduct a 12- to 24-week research project in the other country. Although there are limitations on international travel at the present time, research projects selected through this call for applications will have up to a year to begin (February 2023). All potential applicants must check with their institutions about their policies on international travel prior to submitting an application.

The Gilman-Israel Scholarship, a partnership between the Embassy of Israel to the United States and the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program, is a highly selective award for those studying or interning abroad in Israel.  This scholarship supports a wider effort between the United States and Israel to increase and diversify international student mobility among Israeli and American higher education institutions.
Scholarship Provision: Successful applicants will receive a study grant of $5,000 to be used toward tuition, housing, travel, and related costs for up to one academic year in Israel.
Duration: One academic year

Reich scholarships are awarded each fall and spring to a limited number of American students who choose to study at one of several designated Israeli universities or attend post-college long-term programs. The scholarship seeks to recognize candidates who have demonstrated academic excellence, pro-Israel activity in their personal lives and show a commitment to future involvement with the Jewish and Zionist community. Preference is given to candidates who decide to spend the full year in Israel. Financial need will also be considered, though more emphasis will be placed on merit.
Scholarship Provision: Scholarship amounts generally range from $750 to $1,500.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be American and studying at an American college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Applicants must have been accepted to study in Israel at an undergraduate program at Bar-Ilan University, Ben-Gurion University, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Tel Aviv University, University of Haifa or Weizmann Institute of Science for a minimum of one semester (Preference given to students attending for a full year). Students applying to a seminary, summer program or gap year program are not eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must be actively engaged with pro-Israel activities on their college campus and/or Jewish community in the United States. Recipients of the Helyn B. Reich Scholarship will be expected to remain involved with the American Zionist Movement following their return to the United States. Involvement may include promotion of the American Zionist Movement or one of its member organizations and attendance at AZM events and telephone and e-mail contact with future scholarship applicants.

The Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship supports the best and brightest minds in their postdoctoral research, connecting them with world-class academics and leading researchers. The fellowship provides generous funding for eligible international applicants to conduct research in any academic discipline at accredited institutions in Israel, a country long recognized for outstanding achievements in research and higher education. The International Volunteer Program is intended to promote scientific cooperation between France and Israel by supporting financially the work of a young PhD or Post-doc in an Israeli laboratory. The international volunteer is under the responsibility of the French Ministry of Foreign affairs and will have to devote some time (approx. 3 days a month) to the activities of the Office for scientific and academic cooperation.
Scholarship Provision: The International Volunteer receives a grant on a monthly basis which is co-financed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israeli host institution. The value is approximately equal to 2250 euros per month: 1500 euros from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 750 euros (3750 shekel) from the Israeli laboratory.The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs also provides health insurance coverage, plane ticket (round-trip ticket France-Israel) and luggage transportation (150 kg) to Israel.
Duration: 1 year, renewable once. Only one extension is possible for a total maximum duration of 2 years.
Eligibility Requirements: The candidate must: * be under 28 years old, or under 29 years old if he/she already has a Civiweb account * have a French or European citizenship * be fluent in English AND in French * work on exact science: mathematics, physic, chemistry, medicine, engineering, etc. * have been accepted in an Israeli laboratory/research institute

Erasmus+ offers short-term credit mobility grants (3 to 12 months) to students who study in European universities that have cooperation agreements with Israeli institutions. Students funding to travel to Israel and a living allowance (650 Euros per month). Check with your university’s international relations office to see if you are eligible to receive an Erasmus+ grant to study in Israel.

The Azrieli Fellows Program promotes excellence in research and graduate studies at accredited institutions of higher learning in Israel. This prestigious and competitive program, established in 2007, provides financial support to the best and brightest scholars from Israel and around the world. One of its central goals is to establish strong ties with the Israeli academic community and society. The Azrieli Fellows Program welcomes applicants who wish to undertake postdoctoral research in Israel and are Canadian citizens or have completed a doctorate at a Canadian university. The fellowships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence. Candidates are assessed on their potential to make cutting-edge contributions to their respective fields. Aspects of personal merit and leadership abilities are also taken into consideration without regard to race, religion, gender, ethnicity or age. The value of the fellowship is NIS 145,000 annually (equivalent of approx. CAD$40,000). The duration of the fellowship is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Scholars who wish to apply must obtain an academic sponsor. The academic sponsor must be a faculty member at one of the seven participating Israeli academic institutions.
